Open Source is changing the world ! Yes indeed it is.
The term “open source” refers to something that can be modified because its design is publicly accessible. This means not only programming, but also documentation, theme design, art work, or architectural design.
Making it more simple to understand, If there is code developed and you wish to change the coding and add some new features to that ,Then you need to get the access to the code . The access to the code can be granted by the developer himself and once you are granted the permissions you can modify the code and present it . This is how open-source works in a way . It renders you the right to modify the code and make it work the way you like it to be .
Talking about the open source community, If you present the modified code to the developer community , then the developer community may come up with more idea due to that .This will help work in a better and efficient way without discarding the ideas of any person who is into it. This way the whole community with and publicly accessible freedom to modify works .
Open source is everywhere and is used by everyone on daily basis . Even the website you are viewing now is based on an open-source tool and a content management system (CMS). The popular Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) software, MySQL is also open-source,Java and Wikipedia are the two most used software/website are also based on open-source . Some operating systems like Linux and Ubuntu which allow us to make modifications in a way and hence are open-sources.Even the Android is an open-source.
This video will make the understanding more better –
